Effect of Machine Oil Emulsion Sprays to Control of European Red Mite and Response of Apple Trees during Early Season

Lee Hye-Sung
Abstract
This experiment was carried out to know the mortality of European red mite and tree growth of apple tree by machine oil treatment during pre and post blooming periods.
The results were as follows. Over-wintering eggs of European red mite were controlled effectively by 100x-200x machine oil application to Jonathan, Ralls and Golden delicious at pink stage. While leaf, shoot and fruit growth were retarded and not influenced on the rate of fruit set. Toxic effects on the leaf and fruit russeting was induced by machine oil application. Machine oil application at concentrations of 300x-700x during petal fall stage were not affected on the growth of apple tree and that leaf and fruit growth were a little influenced while control effect of European red mite was decreased considerably.
From these results, machine oil application during early season is not valuable and recommanded.
